The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant honors show draws close, one notices a clamor to include additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles globally maintaining this status for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
